Best for: Per reviewers: first-time VR buyers and organisations wanting Quest 3 capability for demos and training at the lowest entry cost.

Meta Quest 3S is the cheapest credible way into mixed reality: a standalone headset with the same Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chip as the Quest 3, colour passthrough and the full Quest app library. It covers immersive training, demos and virtual walkthroughs. The one thing to know: Meta has wound down its business programme, so a company buys consumer units and manages them with a third-party tool.

Can a business still deploy the Quest 3S?

  • Price reads $349.99 (128GB), $449.99 (256GB) since 19 Apr 2026 — Meta list prices per Meta's April 2026 announcement (TechCrunch); they were $299.99 / $399.99 before.
  • Meta stopped commercial "Quest for Business" SKUs on 20 February 2026 and closed Horizon Managed Services to new customers (UploadVR); fleets now rely on ArborXR or ManageXR.
  • Fresnel lenses and 1832×1920 per-eye panels, older than the Quest 3's: a smaller sweet spot and more glare.
  • Roughly two hours of battery, and each headset needs a Meta account.

Who should skip it

Anyone who needs device management out of the box, or who reads fine text for hours, where the Quest 3's sharper optics justify the extra cost.

What reviewers say

Reviewers treat the Quest 3S as the same headset as the Quest 3 in the ways that matter most, with optics, comfort and battery as the visible savings.

  • Engadget scores it 90/100 for fast performance on the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2, an extensive app library and comfortable controllers, and measured roughly 2 h 20 min of battery life; it faults the older Fresnel lenses for haloing and fuzzier edges, the lower-resolution panel and the missing headphone jack. (Engadget, Oct 2024)
  • Tom's Guide rates it 4/5, crediting colour passthrough, speedy performance, a compact design, strong audio and the shared app library, while finding it uncomfortable over long sessions and short on battery. (Tom's Guide, Oct 2024)
  • TechRadar gives it 4.5/5 under the headline "the world's best affordable VR headset", praising the specs and Horizon OS software and noting a bulky shape, poorer visuals than it would like and IPD presets instead of granular adjustment. (TechRadar, Oct 2024)
  • Road to VR calls it value that cannot be beaten for a first headset, highlights better low-light hand tracking than the Quest 3, and criticises the small lens sweet spot, the absence of a proximity sensor, a front-heavy stock strap and a Horizon OS it still finds clunky. (Road to VR, Oct 2024)

Consensus: the same chip, content library and mixed-reality features as the Quest 3 make it the recommended entry point across all four outlets; the shared caveats are lens clarity, comfort and a battery of a little over two hours, and Road to VR is the most critical of the software.
