The TP-Link TL-SG105 is a five-port Gigabit network switch in a fanless steel case. Plug it in and it works: wired ports for a desk, a till or a meeting room where one Ethernet socket is not enough. The one thing to know is that it is unmanaged, so there are no VLANs.

Which five-port switch should a small business buy?

  • Gigabit on all five ports, silent, no configuration.
  • The TL-SG105E "Easy Smart" is the managed sibling with VLANs; the TL-SG1005P adds PoE for cameras and access points; the TL-SG105-M2 is the 2.5G version.
  • Limited lifetime warranty in the US.
  • Small enough to sit behind a monitor.

Who should skip it

Anyone powering PoE cameras or access points needs the PoE model. Anyone segmenting guest and office traffic needs the managed version.
