Cloudways

Cloudways sits between shared hosting and running your own server. You choose the underlying infrastructure — DigitalOcean, AWS or Google Cloud — and Cloudways handles provisioning, the stack, caching, backups, staging and SSL. You get cloud performance without becoming a system administrator, which is the right trade for most businesses running WordPress or WooCommerce.

Pricing, confirmed on cloudways.com in September 2026: the entry plan is $11 a month on DigitalOcean Standard — 2 GB RAM, 1 vCPU, 50 GB storage, 2 TB transfer — billed hourly on a pay-as-you-go basis at roughly $0.036 an hour, so a server you spin up for a week costs a week. There is a 3-day free trial with no card required. Promotional discounting was heavy at the time of checking, with offers of 30% off for three months and 40% off for four running concurrently.

Two things to weigh. The hourly, pay-as-you-go model is genuinely useful for staging and short-lived projects and it also means the bill scales with what you leave running, so unused servers are a real cost. And the promotions above are exactly why an introductory price is a poor basis for a hosting decision: work out the renewal cost at your expected size before migrating anything, because migrating away later is the expensive part.

Not tested hands-on. Compiled from the vendor's published pricing and documentation, researched August 2026 with entry pricing, billing model and trial terms re-checked against cloudways.com in September 2026. There is no Digital4All score on this listing: our scores mean hands-on testing, and we will not imply testing we have not done.
